My favorite farm mom role being a dairy show mom. I didn’t grow up showing Dairy cow’s but my husband did and he loves passing that family tradition on to our children. All our four kids started showing Dairy Cow’s at 5 years old in open class and at the age of 8 years old in 4-H, the oldest now about to turn 18. I have been at this role for several years and will be for some time my youngest just turned 8.
Packing and preparing for shows takes time and planning and even with the best planning and checking off the list, something always seems to get forgotten or a run to the store is in need.
As the years keep going on there have been countless memories, if you are a new show mom here are my tips and check list for each show. Enjoy every minute as a show MOM!
1. Show Cows: washed and clipped
2. Kids: washed and clipped! Both are necessary for a successful show
3. Show Supplies & Equipment, Feed :make a paper check list to use when packing (Hay, TMR, Grain and water supplies)
4. Registration Papers and health papers: a 3 ring binder with works great, put papers in page protectors.
5. Food and Drinks: individually packaged snacks for grab and go ease and crock pot meals for one good meal for the day.
6. Show Clothes: White Shirt we use polo shirts, white Jeans, Belt & Buckle, Boots, ~ take extra when the kids are young. Make sure they fit seems at last minute they are telling me nothing fits them (teenagers).
7. Camera: to capture those precious moments, fun shots and wins
8. A Smile, Words of Encouragement, Hugs: to be distributed at all time I make sure I do it in front of their friends (mom pride).
9. Repeat the above for each show!
10. Enjoy, every moment of your kids dairy show career it goes by fast.
