What I heard at work today was really funny. I had a younger girl sitting behind me with older women. She says” I really can’t clean my house. I have so much that has to be picked up. I haven’t cleaned or mopped my kitchen in a month.” My mouth dropped open. The other women just said you need to talk to that Kim Smith on that other team. I hear she has a plan for everything this year and she became the gazelle’s person on being organized. I almost couldn’t believe what I was hearing. ME I just started with this. So, later that day I got an email from her. She asked two question one can I keep it quiet that she needs help? My answer to that was yes I can I will never use her name in helping her. And Two was Where do I begin to get organized?
I told her she isn’t going to start cleaning until she gets organized.
I said each day I’m going to give you a list of things that need to be done. This will take you two weeks or more to get to where you are going to clean everything in a week.
So, I put her on the same schedule as myself. Since yesterday was Wednesday I told her to take 10 minutes per room (ten minute tidy we call it). And I use a timer for this.
Just for today you are going to DE clutter each room for ten minutes.
I start with the living room. I place newspapers in the recycling bin, place magazines on top of each other, dishes next to the sink (if the dish washer is empty into that), fold blankets, papers put away or thrown out, place toys away. But all of this takes MOVING.
SO MOVE IT’s a race to see if you can do everything before that ten Minutes are up!!!!!! MOVE MOVE MOVE
Next the Bathroom this should not take you ten minutes. I place all brushes into the drawer, place curling irons and blow-dries where they belong, hang up towels, make sure the storage closet is picked up too and we have TP and shampoo, soap.
Next room the kitchen this will take ten minutes I add the extra from the bathroom. Clean off the table, put the dishes away in dishwasher, place dishes in the dish washer, clean off the kids desk of paper that have piled up and then I pick up the counters. But Run because the Ten minutes go fast.
For the first time doing this I didn’t get everything. It going to take weeks. You are chipping away for only 30 minutes a week at this. If you have lots of clutters also do this on Sunday’s too, until it’s more manageable.
